Sunday, October 31st, 2004SO MUCH TIME, SO LITTLE TIME. By which I mean that I tried my last case for the old law firm on the 22nd, and so theoretically have had lots of time on my hands, including time to blog. Yet few entries…why?
First, I’ve been working somewhat hard around the house. Bamboo floors are going in the upstairs, as mentioned, so there has been much schlepping of the half-ton of giant grass product (cut, slatted, joined, milled, baked, and finished giant grass product, that is)–schlepping in the house, schlepping up the stairs, schlepping out of its nineteen cardboard boxes and attendant packaging. I am now the proud owner of a pneumatic flooring stapler that I will try out tomorrow. I have also refinished a desk and a bedside table. Using a palm sander for five hours straight, I can now report with some authority, leaves one’s sanding arm weak and one’s whole body vibrating.
Second, I’ve really been afraid to post about politics, which has remained my consuming passion. Kos is predicting a big Kerry victory, which is an exciting prospect but one that I won’t jinx by talking more about it. Remember that this blog was founded in the frustrating days after the 2002 election. (see archives, link at right.)
Third, I’ve been playing Worms 2, an intolerably addictive game that is at this point maybe five years old. These people developed it, and it is their franchise meme.
Last, I’ve been reading up a storm. I’ve been wondering how to do a Movable Type-type sidebar with “listening to:” and “reading:” sublists, but haven’t figured it out. I just finished Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, which was excellent, and just received from the library my long-ago-requested copy of The System of the World, which sadly is due back in sixteen days, no renewals allowed. I better get cracking. I read short books too, but the sense of accomplishment isn’t there.
