“OUR VACATION,” BY ME.

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

So we went to Orcas Island over the holiday weekend, which is one of our favorite places. In part we love the scenery, wildlife, and outdoor adventures, but mostly we just love the devastating margaritas at Bilbo’s (”An Orcas Island Tradition Since 1974!”).

On to the pictures. First, The Gus having his pre-vacation bath, and making the most of it:
there was an incident involving pureed sweet potatoes.

We went tidepooling, which is one of our favorite activities:
The Gus meets a starfish

This is a chiton. I will look up what kind–I just recall that it is not a gumboot chiton. [update: may be a Black Katy Chiton, Katharina tunicata.]

The camera devours batteries like nobody’s business, but accurately captured the color of this starfish.

The Gus is a very small man of many not so very small moods. This weekend we did much socializing, and he showed that he is capable of great joy, as well as great melancholic sensitivity.

Here, he greeted his future prom date Rose. We need to keep them chaperoned at all times.
c'mere, you little hottie!

Here, with Jenn, he looks like he got bopped upside the head, but not in a bad way.
um, what was I saying again...?

Here he looks like he suffering some existentialist angst, probably because of the bubble on his head.
that bubble better be biodegradable.

Here, he looks spunky and a little mischievous.
note the Metallica onesie. ROCK ON!!

SOME RECENT PICS.

I would like to credit my slowth to post of late to something a little more titillating, but it comes down to the camera, which eats batteries. It is the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal with respect to batteries.

But the baby is cute. Here, two pics of him being a poor sport for uncle JW:
c'mon, smile for the camera

Here, two pics of him looking wistful, or soulful, or just perplexed:

He is looking more and more like a little boy. It’s a beautiful and heartbreaking thing.
